Movie devil who is it spoiler

Between each individual monster being a powerful foe and their Alien Queen -esque leader being inaccessible, it makes sense that the locals had not yet been able to eradicate the monsters and had to settle for containing the problem. It may seem surprising to some viewers that Arianne opts to stay in Shookum Hills during the closing moments of The Devil Below. However, it is worth remembering that her character has now been through not one, but two, instances of a friend sacrificing their life to save hers, both of which have had a profound effect on her character.

The story of some subterranean monsters picking off a group of ill-fated characters one by one may not seem deep, but The Devil Below approaches this familiar plot in a manner that is vastly thematically different from the superficially similar The Descent. The monsters are undoubtedly feral man-eaters, but their organized approach to hunting as a hive makes them lethally effective, high body count villains. In contrast, when Darren, Arianne, and company split off they are killed off one by one, whereas Darren opting sacrifice himself to Arianne leads Arianne to stay and help the locals kill the monsters for good, proving that collective action is effective action.

Ultimately, The Devil Below tells viewers that there is strength in solidarity — and to steer clear of abandoned mines. Cathal Gunning has been writing about movies and TV online since By the end of the movie, seven characters are dead, starting with the suicide at the beginning of the movie. Of the five people trapped in the elevator, only Tony survives. A mirror breaks and a shard of glass slices Vince's jugular, Jane is hanged from a cable, Ben has his neck broken, and Sarah's throat is cut.

Lustig is electrocuted, and repair technician Dwight Joe Cobden falls down the elevator shaft. It is also shown in a flashback how Bowden's wife and son were killed in a car accident five years ago. Though there is no in-movie explanation nor do we see the injuries being inflicted, it is reasonable to assume it is the Devil that made the bite marks. The Devil may have caused them to occur supernaturally. Due to The Devil's ability to change reality within the Elevator especially when the lights flicker, it either turned into a demon or it's "true" form to cut her which felt like an inhuman bite, which is why she looks so scared.

It's a cry wolf punishment of sorts for the way she scams people and lies about him grabbing her. Sign In. Devil Jump to: FAQs 6 Spoilers 1. What is 'Devil' about? Is 'Devil' based on a book? How is the suicide at the start of the movie related to the story? What wrongdoing did each of the trapped people commit? How does the movie end? How many people die? Since "The Devil Below" likes to play with the concept of heroes and villains, it's only fitting that it ends with the main character choosing her side in the grand scheme of things.

Arianne is haunted by survivor's guilt, and sees herself as the weak link who ends up abandoning others, so it wouldn't be all that shocking to see her make a spirited attempt to get out of Dodge as soon as she escapes the mines.

Yet, at the end of the movie, she stays with Schuttmann and joins his efforts to contain the monsters, having finally decided to stop running away. Redemption arc complete! Most horror movies keep their eye on the ball when it comes to setting up potential sequels, but it's impressive just how many possible routes for future installments the ending of "The Devil Below" manages to set up.

The fact that it's outright stated that groups like Arianne's keep trying to solve the mining town's mystery — and, thus, unwittingly messing with the containment efforts — means there could be any number of new adventurers heading toward Shookum Hills at any given moment.

A potential sequel could also easily amp up its monster game, because the creatures' hive structure could hide all sorts of new, even more horrifying members of the species in its depths. That's just the tip of the iceberg, too. Possible future movies could easily delve deeper into the ingenious methods that the locals have devised against the creatures, or perhaps even give viewers a period piece that tells the story of the mining town's downfall.

Of course, there's also the most obvious and pressing plotline: Showing the audience what became of Arianne and Schuttmann. Do the survivors manage to contain the mine monsters, or will some hapless future adventurer find two familiar-looking skeletons scattered in the tunnels? Perhaps one day, the world will find out.
